Banana-Brownie-Milkshake, or BBM

August 27, 2012 By Praerna Kartha

AK is currently undergoing some painful dental treatment and he has to visit the dentist every second or third day. As a result, he needs to eat “soft food”. Since he thinks all traditional “soft food” qualifies as hospital food, his go-to is milkshakes. That boy can seriously live on milkshakes. If only they invented a chicken one soon. On second thought, that might be gross.

Anyhow, I had baked The Best Brownies E.V.E.R. on Friday and there were some leftovers. Personally, I would rather have the brownies by themselves, but AK got a kick out of making a milkshake with BROWNIES at HOME.

Actually, he couldn’t get over it.

So here’s what we used for 1 serving of 500 ml:

2 medium sized bananas
2 squares chocolate brownies (obviously you can add as many or as little as you like)
Milk
2 cubes ice
(Some ice-cream would have been fantastic but we had run out)
Chocolate Malt Powder (Horlicks) to sprinkle on top
We didn’t add any sugar because the bananas+brownies were sweet enough but feel free to add some.

Here’s how we made it:

Here are the bananas, hanging out on the brownie box…

And the milk.

I peeled the bananas and roughly broke them before adding them to the hand-blender jar (you can very easily do this in a traditional blender too).

Next, I roughly broke up the brownies and added them to the jar too…

Adding a dash of the milk (to aid easy blending), I lowered the blender into the jar and whizzed it all until it became pulpy… If you want to add sugar, this is stage to do it.

I crushed the ice cubes slightly using my mortar pestle and added them to the shake – because the blender manual says that large chunks of solid ice can break the blades. I didn’t want to find out if it was really true.

Pouring in the rest of the milk (until the whole mix hit the 500 ml mark on the blender jar), I whizzed until the shake was airy and frothy, moving the blender up-and-down to incorporate more air.

Poured the shake into the glass…

Sprinkled some of the malted chocolate powder on top and Voila!

Delicious, home-made (from scratch) Banana-Brownie-Milkshake!
