Southern Flavours

September 14, 2012 By Praerna Kartha

A few weeks ago, AK and I did a shoot for an up-and-coming Quick Serve Restaurant called Southern Flavours. They recently launched their first outlet in Noida and have some exciting expansion plans ahead.

They called upon AK & I to work with them for photographs that they would need for their menu, the website and, of course, communication and marketing plans. We were only too happy to help – on the condition that they keep us endlessly supplied with piping hot filter coffee on the hour!

When we reached their facility, I was fascinated by their monster size batter grinder, coconut scraper and humongous cast iron dosa griddle. Apart from the obvious bit of logic that there was absolutely no way that I could fit such commercial/ industrial sized equipment in my tiny kitchen, there was nothing to hold me back from stealing a whole lot of that stuff!

We were greeted with our first cup of coffee that day along with fresh idlis, chutney and piping hot sambhar. It was the perfect breakfast to kick start a long and strenuous shoot day. So armed with a whole lot of props and some of Lakshmi’s (the proprietor) beautiful brass vessels, we began. Here’s  sneak peak into some of the final shots…

Rava Idli…

Upma…

Parothas with Korma…

Mini Idlis…

Utthapams, Regular and Mini…

Rice – (clockwise from top left) Lemon, Sambhar, Coconut and Tamarind…

Ghee Kesari…

Vadas…

Dosa…

These were some of my favourites!

All in all, a day well spent with a few of my favourite (things) – food, styling and photography!
